Prof Jeff Szer

Jeff Szer was the foundation Professor/Director of the Department of Clinical Haematology & Bone Marrow Transplant Service at Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, until August 2016, when the department became a part of the Clinical Haematology Department at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre & The Royal Melbourne Hospital. He was the foundation Group lead for Classical Haematology including rare haematologic disorders in the VCCC and is an active PI in the Classical Haematology and Allogeneic BMT spaces.

Jeff established the first adult bone marrow transplant centre in Melbourne in 1984 and has clinical research interests in all areas of transplantation and haematology, in particular improving the outcomes of treatment for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and the non-malignant conditions of Gaucher disease and paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria, two diseases in which he is considered something of an expert. He chairs the International PNH Registry Committee as well as the soon-to-be-initiated IPIG PNH Registry

He sits on several national and international committees and organisations involved in haematology. He is a past President of the World Marrow Donor Association and the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. He has authored over 420 papers in peer-reviewed journals and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Internal Medicine Journal. He is on the Editorial Boards of several other international journals including Blood Reviews, BMC Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation.
